We are very pleased to announce that Holy Cross Germantown Hospital is now officially an ASMBS Accredited Center. Our very own Dr. Joe Greene spearheaded the initiative.
What is ASMBS Accreditation?
The American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery merged with the American College of Surgeons to form a national bariatric surgery accreditation program. This means there is one national accreditation standard for bariatric surgery centers.
The Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP) aims to advance safe, high-quality care for bariatric surgical patients. The accreditation process is a rigorous review that ensures an office can maintain certain physical resources, human resources, and standards of practice.
About MBSAQIP
This program evaluates bariatric centers in the US and Canada. This is an independent, voluntary, rigorous peer evaluation done in accordance with nationally recognized surgical standards. This accreditation promotes uniform standards and supports continuous improvement.
Bariatric surgical procedures can reduce obesity, improve mortality, and decrease the health risks associated with obesity. MBSAQIP recognizes the facilities that implement defined standards of care, documents their outcomes, and participates in regular reviews to further evaluate their bariatric surgical programs.
Dr. Joe Greene 
Our own Dr. Joe Greene spearheaded this initiative to help Holy Cross Germantown Hospital gain accreditation. Dr. Joe is a board certified, and fellowship trained Bariatric, Robotic, and Advanced Laparoscopic Surgeon. He is a Fellow of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. Dr. Joe regularly performs robotic and laparoscopic bariatric surgery, as well as other minimally invasive general surgical procedures and Holy Cross Germantown Hospital.
Dr. Joe has won several awards for patient care and research, authored 5 peer reviewed publications, and has a great passion for improving quality of surgical care and patient safety. His work in this area led to him being voted a Top Doctor in 2021 by Washingtonian Magazine.
